Dear Syd,
I want to write you a letter to let you know just how much I appreciate what you have done for me over the last 6 or so years. I remember when I met you that I knew there was some thing different about you than every one else I was around. I was in college traveling down the spiraling path that the American society lead me to believe was the path to prosperity and money.
Only after picking your brain and finding out a few things that separated you from the rest of the crowd did I realize you were some one that I wanted to surround myself with. Not only your values and character but your passion as an entrepreneur, the same entrepreneurial spirit that I had but with the experience I didn’t.
After I left college I took some of that wise advice that you had been giving me and purchased my first 2 family house. I lived in one side and rented out the other. It was my first experience as a landlord at the ripe old age of 23. From there I continued to purchase distressed properties, fix them up and rent them out. In just 3 ½ shorts years I acquired over $300,000 of rental property to include 4 single family houses, two duplexes and a town house with nearly $40,000 in passive income when my last renovation is done.
One of my 2008 goals is to purchase a 6 unit apartment building that grosses over $100,000 a year with a passive income of roughly $40,000. My main 2008 goal will transform my life forever. I plan on continuing to pursue my real estate investing knowledge to the point at which I can walk away from any job for the rest of my life and allow real estate to finance the rest of my life as well as the future of my family.
I truly owe these successes to you. You were the one that got me started, answered all my questions as well as all of my annoying continuous phone calls.
If all goes as planned, at the age of 28 I will walk away from all jobs for the rest of my life, approximately 34 years earlier than the rest of society. I will not be dependant on Social security that “might” be there or work for a company that promises me a pension 30 years from now if they are even still in business. I will not morph into a robot that works 40 hours a weeks to make some one else rich only to sacrifice my time and family.
I remember when I thought that I would be very well off if I made $50,000 a year as an employee. Those thoughts are long since behind me as now I look forward to some day making $50,000 a month.
The numbers and the dollar signs are not the focus but rather the freedom, the freedom of not running in a circle for two thirds of my life just to end up where I started and where my parents left off.
It is because of your guidance that I am able to continue my pursuit of life rather than my pursuit of a paycheck. A life that includes attending my children’s sporting events, taking my family on vacation and attending their class field trips, a life with out limits, a life that every one should be able to lead.
It is because of you that my faith in the lord has been incredibly strengthened and been incorporated in my conquest.
